Can wheatgrass be healthy for you?
Many users of wheatgrass claim that regular ingestion of wheatgrass natures finest plant can improve the digestive system, prevent cancer, diabetes and heart disease, cure constipation, detoxify heavy metals from the bloodstream, cleanse the liver, prevent hair loss and helps make menopause more manageable, as well as promoting overall well being.
Although I am no doctor and do not claim to be, I am smart enough to figure out what is good and what benefits me. The information that is shared on this website is for personal use and in no way is to be taken as medical advice. However you as an individual should always research and evaluate what is right and good for you. Do all cures and preventive measure come from doctors and the medical profession? In my personal opinion NO!
“The health claims of wheatgrass include prevention of cancer, prevention of heart disease, prevention of diabetes, chelation or detoxification of heavy metals, cleansing, liver cleansing and prevention of hair loss and none of these claims have actually been substantiated in the scientific literature.”

A popular claims about wheatgrass and one that is frequently made by both supporters of wheatgrass and retailers of wheatgrass, is that a single serving of wheatgrass has the nutritionally value of a kilogram of green vegetables. By now you should know how important green vegetables are for you and the health benefits of them. This popular wheatgrass claim most likely originates from a statement that the “father of wheatgrass”, Charles F. Schnabel, is alleged to have said. It is said the Charles F. Schnabel said “Fifteen pounds of wheatgrass is equivalent to 350 pounds of the choice vegetables”.
Schnabel’s research was with wheatgrass that required 200 days of growth it was grown outdoors and in the state of Kansas. During his research his wheatgrass grew slowly through the winter and early spring, it was harvested at the “jointing or reproductive stage.” It is at the jointing or reproductive stage that the plant reached its peak nutritional potential. It was then dehydrated and made into powders and tablets for human consumption.
Wheatgrass grown indoors in trays take about ten days to grow and contains similar nutritional content as outdoor grown wheatgrass. Outdoor grown wheatgrass is still manufactured in tablet and powdered forms.
One of the key properties of wheatgrass is the chlorophyll molecule and it is structurally similar to hemoglobin this property leads some to believe that wheatgrass helps blood flow, digestion and general detoxification of the body. Although no research exists that directly connects chlorophyll with blood building, nutrients such as iron that are associated with dark green leafy vegetables have been shown to be important for healthy blood.
With the claim that are associated with wheatgrass one can draw a conclusion that wheatgrass is and can be a healthy choice and is worth every ounce of energy that you put into discovering more about it. You are a smart individual and know what is right for you and sometime in today environment you know better than a doctor does.
Really pay close attention to yourself and research your options if wheatgrass has been and is a healthy choice for so many others there is something to be considered about the health claims of wheatgrass.
